The oratorio "Elijah" by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, premiered in Birmingham in 1846, is one of the most important sacred works of the 19th century. It describes the Old Testament story of the prophet Elijah – his fight against idolatry, his miracles, his persecution and finally his ascension. Mendelssohn combines the clear structure and spiritual seriousness of the Baroque oratorio tradition of Bach and Handel with the emotional depth and colourful tonal language of the Romantic period.

Musik Tage - Melodyfactory Foundation for youth and music

Classical music for young and old! On the weekend of June 12-13, 2026, the Melody Factory, Foundation for Youth and Music, in cooperation with St. Charles Hall, will host the St. Charles Hall Music Festival for the first time. Celebrate with us the premiere of a new summer tradition in Meggen! Let yourself be enchanted by the music and the breathtaking atmosphere with a view of Lake Lucerne! The festive start will be on Friday evening with a NOW concert. With this concert series, Melody Factory enables students to present their musical skills to HSLU. The many different ensembles make the concert experience dynamic and varied. At 7:00 p.m. on May 29, everything revolves around film music. From the music that accompanies the first silent films to the great melodies we all know.

The term "silent film" is actually misleading. Because even though these films were never spoken, they were never really quiet, music accompanied every scene, heightened emotions and told stories. A famous example is the Black and White films with Charlie Chaplin, whose works would hardly be conceivable without musical accompaniment. Be curious! You may hear one or two iconic tunes from that time this evening...

For this year's spring concert, internationally renowned trumpeter Laura Winter and organist Simon Nádasi present a varied programme including the Hummel Trumpet Concerto in E - flat, Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin, Chaplin, Joplin and Brubeck.
